MEDIA EMPIRE

The rival stations and their bosses

Each of the 3 rival stations is run by a CEO with a different temperament. They play by the same rules, at the same prices, with the same public information as you.

Rival stations: 3
Big match: every 7 days, announced 3 days ahead
What you can see: aired ratings, the table, announced deals

Same rules for everyone

Rivals get no perk you do not get and suffer no handicap you avoid. Live-special prices, rights auctions, award entries and the board's mandate apply to them exactly as to you. Their schedule is hidden until it airs; only last night's line-up is public.

The 3 rival CEOs

차유나 · Channel A · StarEnt

Trend-chasing showmaker

A producer who landed three audition hits in a row and rode them to the top job. She smells a trend a week before anyone else.

“Viewers don't wait. The next trend has already started.”

Strong genres: Variety, Reality, Music

민경호 · Channel B · NewsOne

Principled ex-anchor

Twenty-seven years in the evening news anchor's chair. He says trust comes first, but he never takes his eye off the numbers.

“Numbers last a day. Trust lasts a decade.”

Strong genres: News, Talk, Documentary

배태산 · Channel C · SportsMax

Ex-athlete competitor

A former pro baseball catcher who went from the commentary box to the CEO's office. Scheduling, negotiating: to him it's all a game.

“The real game starts with two out in the bottom of the ninth.”

Strong genres: Sports, Live, News

How to beat them

Going head to head with a rival's strongest genre splits the audience for both of you. Look for the hours where their show was weak last night. The bosses comment on the results every morning, and the rivals screen keeps your head-to-head record.

You will meet the same rivals when signing stars and staff, in rights auctions and in licence contests. A rival short of cash cannot overbid.
