Rating and share

Your rating is the part of the whole market that watched your channel; your share is your part of the people watching TV at that hour. The results screen and the dashboard's "Who watched" card break both down by audience group.

What lifts a rating and what cuts it

Up: a better show for the hour, a strong lead-in from the hour before, promotion and good word of mouth. Down: a strong rival show in the same hour, and rerunning the same programme too often.

Freshness falls every time a show airs (new episode −3, rerun −10), recovers +4 for each day off and +35 with a new season. News & Live never wear out, however often they air.

Word of mouth and awareness

Word of mouth grows when a show is better than people expected and shrinks when promotion and star power promised more than it delivers. Awareness rises with promotion campaigns and drifts back to its baseline every day without one. Both multiply the next airing's rating.
